Illinois House Minority Leader Tony McCombie said on April 23 that she is waiting for a stronger proposal after the megaprojects bill was presented and debated in the House. In a statement, McCombie addressed concerns about the effectiveness of the current legislation.
“Our state faces significant challenges that will not be fixed with half-baked measures intended to create movement, not progress. Illinois needs investment, development, and growth. Reform is needed to do it the right way, ones that benefit the future of our state and Illinois families. I look forward to having further conversations as this bill moves to the Senate,” McCombie said.
The debate over this bill comes as lawmakers consider plans for large-scale projects such as those involving professional sports teams like the Chicago Bears. The issue has drawn attention because of its potential impact on economic development and job creation across Illinois.
McCombie, a Republican, was elected to represent Illinois’ 89th House District in 2023 after replacing previous state representative Andrew Chesney according to Ballotpedia.
As discussions continue in Springfield, observers are watching how revisions or negotiations may shape future investments tied to major projects.
