Illinois State Representative Bradley J. Fritts provided an update on March 24 regarding the progress of the 2026 spring legislative session, upcoming House Bill Committee deadlines, and recent activities in his district.
Fritts said that this week marks a key deadline for House bills to advance out of their respective committees. He noted that such weeks often bring last-minute efforts to introduce controversial legislation. One focus this year is proposed changes affecting gun owners, specifically referencing House Bill 4414.
According to Fritts, “House Bill 4414 represents yet another government overreach targeting law-abiding gun owners while doing nothing to stop actual criminals.” He outlined concerns about tracking ammunition purchases and imposing new fees and regulations on gun owners and retailers. Fritts encouraged constituents to sign a petition opposing the bill.
Beyond legislative matters, Fritts highlighted several community initiatives. He invited local seniors to attend a Medicare 101 informational event on April 20 at Mills & Petrie Memorial Library in Ashton. The representative also described recent visits with area schools—including Rochelle elementary schools—and recognized achievements by local sports teams such as Dixon High School Boys Cross Country Team and Polo High School Football Team.
Fritts mentioned his visit with Illinois House Minority Leader Tony McCombie to Whiteside Area Career Center in Sterling, which offers career pathways in fields like automotive technology and welding. He promoted resources such as a free museum pass available through his office for residents interested in visiting Chicagoland museums.
Fritts was elected as a Republican representative for Illinois’ 74th House District in 2023, succeeding Dan Swanson according to available information.
