State Senator Andrew Chesney has launched the 2025 Summer Reading Program aimed at encouraging children in his district to engage in reading during the summer break. The program targets students entering first through sixth grade, challenging them to read eight books over the summer. Books exceeding 200 pages can be counted as two books.

Senator Chesney stated, “Reading over the summer isn’t just about keeping kids busy, it’s about giving them a head start for the next school year.” He emphasized that the program is designed to help young readers maintain sharp minds while enjoying their reading experience.

Parents or guardians are required to sign a summer reading form once their child completes the readings. This form can be accessed online or at senatorchesney.com and must be submitted by August 13, 2025, to Senator Chesney’s office in Freeport, Illinois.

“Every student who completes this challenge deserves recognition,” said Chesney. He highlighted that the program serves as an opportunity to celebrate students’ efforts and demonstrate that dedication to learning is rewarding.

Participants who fulfill the requirements will receive an official certificate from the Illinois Senate and an invitation to an ice cream party celebrating their accomplishments.

For further details, interested parties can contact Senator Chesney’s district office at (815) 232-0774.
