Odell Public Library Board met March 8.

Here is the agenda as provided by the Board:

The March 8, 2017 board meeting opened at 5:30 pm in the program room of the library. Board members present were Marc Adami, Jen Black, Marcia Haag, Jan Horberg, Melissa Nyboer, Sarah Thorndike, and Chris Vanderleest. Staff members Lori Matlack and Lisa Boles were in attendance.

General Business: A) The minutes of the February meeting were approved on a motion by Jen Black and seconded by Sarah Thorndike. B) Bills and salaries in the amount of $9,868.83 were approved, motion by Jan Horberg, second by Marcia Haag (roll call vote-7 ayes, 0 nay). C) The treasurer’s report was received. D) The Director’s report was discussed and received.

Unfinished Business: The Building Repair report was discussed and received.

New Business: The issue of past PPRT (Personal Property Replacement Tax) monies not received from the city was discussed. Marc Adami and Director Matlack met with Wally Kilgus to discuss legal options. Mr. Kilgus was unsure of any legal standing the library would have against the city. He offered to proceed with inquiries at his usual rate of $300/hr. The board did not move to proceed at this time. Several board members thought it would be good to calculate exactly how much the city withheld from the library and have it noted in minutes for future reference.

Board ideas/Concerns: The board received an update on the Walt Westendorf estate proceedings. Through mediation, the Fulton Unity Christian School offered the complainants $50,000 to be split amongst themselves. That offer was rejected. As one of the complainants, the library received a bill to help cover the cost of the mediator.

Public Comment: The Odell Public Library Friends’ report was received. The Friends will be purchasing another security camera for the library. They will also be providing lunch for library staff to help celebrate National Library Week.

Vern Tervelt gave an update on various city projects.

The next meeting will be Wednesday, April 12, 2017 in the program room of the library

The meeting adjourned at 6:12, motion Sarah Thorndike, second Jan Horberg.
