Analysis: 57 percent of Plt students fail annual tests

Elm 16

Academic results data released recently reveals 43 percent of Plt Middle School students are considered on track for the next grade level, according to a NW Illinois News analysis of the latest Illinois schools report card.

The end-of-year tests known as the Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers, or PARCC, are administered to third- through eighth-graders in Illinois, testing them in reading and math based on Common Core standards. A composite score combines the results of the subject tests.

Composite scores for Plt Middle School show about 38 percent met expectations and 5 percent exceeded them. Students whose results are in either category passed the tests and are considered prepared for the next grade level, college or work.

Another 32 percent approached expectations, 17 percent partially met expectations and 8 percent did not meet expectations. Students who scored in these categories are not ready for the next level of schooling, according to the test.

Test results at Plt Middle School, which enrolled 168 students in 2017, surpassed state averages.

Statewide, 34 percent of students passed the test and 66 percent failed.

Of students statewide who passed, only five percent 'exceeded' expectations.
