How much has Byron CUSD 226 overspent over the past 10 years?

Byron Community Unit School District 226 accumulated $41.63 million in debt between fiscal years 2008 and 2017, according to a NW Illinois News analysis of public schools data.

Spending and revenue data obtained for this analysis comes from the Illinois Local Education Agency Retrieval Network (ILEARN), which is part of the Illinois State Board of Education and collects data annually on school district financials.

Over the 10-year span, Byron CUSD 226 reported 17.4 percent more revenue. At the same time, total spending went down 6.3 percent.
