Forrestville Valley Community Unit School District 221 students suspended 128 times in a single school year

Forrestville Valley Community Unit School District 221 reported 128 suspensions for 2016-17, according to the latest student discipline report by the Illinois State Board of Education.

According to the report, the district expelled or suspended 128 students during the year. That equates to 15 percent of the 856 students enrolled.

Of the 65 in-school suspensions, including 53 elementary or middle schoolers and 12 high schoolers.

The district reported that most in-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 62 incidents. There were three incidents of tobacco. For 58 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.

Of the 63 out-of-school suspensions, including 45 elementary or middle schoolers and 18 high schoolers.

The district reported that most out-of-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 44 incidents. There were 15 incidents of tobacco. For 29 incidents, students were suspended for 1-3 days.
