Oregon Community Unit School District 220 students suspended, expelled 507 times in a single school year

Oregon Community Unit School District 220 reported one expulsions and 506 suspensions for 2016-17, according to the latest student discipline report by the Illinois State Board of Education.

According to the report, the district expelled or suspended 507 students during the year. That equates to 34.9 percent of the 1,451 students enrolled.

Students were expelled for one incident with unspecified reasons.

Of the 450 in-school suspensions, 297 were given to boys and 153 were given to girls, including 100 elementary or middle schoolers and 350 high schoolers.

The district reported that most in-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 434 incidents. There were eight incidents of violence without physical injury. For 430 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.

Of the 56 out-of-school suspensions, 40 were given to boys and 16 were given to girls, including 27 elementary or middle schoolers and 29 high schoolers.

The district reported that most out-of-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 37 incidents. There were eight incidents of violence without physical injury. For 19 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.
