West Carroll Community Unit School District 314 students suspended, expelled 307 times in a single school year

West Carroll Community Unit School District 314 reported one expulsions and 306 suspensions for 2016-17, according to the latest student discipline report by the Illinois State Board of Education.

According to the report, the district expelled or suspended 307 students during the year. That equates to 27.2 percent of the 1,130 students enrolled.

Students were expelled for one incident with drugs.

Of the 201 in-school suspensions, 154 were given to boys and 47 were given to girls, including 102 elementary or middle schoolers and 99 high schoolers.

The district reported that most in-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 197 incidents. There were four incidents of violence without physical injury. For 194 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.

Of the 105 out-of-school suspensions, 90 were given to boys and 15 were given to girls, including 81 elementary or middle schoolers and 24 high schoolers.

The district reported that most out-of-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 96 incidents. There were eight incidents of violence without physical injury. For 45 incidents, students were suspended for 1-3 days.
