City of Dixon issued the following announcement on Sept. 14.
Due to being rained out on Labor Day weekend, Bags for the Brave has been rescheduled to Sunday, September 16th on the 100 block of W. First Street in downtown Dixon. Bags for the Brave raises money each year so that Lee County and surrounding area veterans can go on an Honor Flight. With the support of our corporate sponsors and you the community we have been able to send over 300 area Veterans on an Honor Flight and we have 58 signed up for the next scheduled flight in 2019. Applications for Veterans and Guardians will be available at the event.
The Bags for the Brave is taking place during the Dixon Scarecrow Festival. The rescheduled date does conflict with many who planned on playing bags over Labor Day, so we have openings if you would like to join a fun-filled afternoon. The cost for a Bags Team is $40. Plus, there are many prizes being awarded, a 50-50 drawing, and kids can play shoot the puck to try and win a new bike.
Registration starts at 11 am at the corner of First Street and Hennepin Avenue. The Veteran’s parade will begin at Noon on Hennepin Ave by the Library and go to First Street, followed by a short ceremony. The Bags Tournament with ”bags to fly” begins at 12:30 pm. The Bags for the Brave is Free to spectators and people that want to participate in other games.
