City of Morrison Council met August 13.

The Morrison City Council met in Regular Session on August 13, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. in the Whiteside County Board Room, 400 North Cherry Street, Morrison, IL. Mayor Everett Pannier called the meeting to order. City Clerk Melanie Schroeder recorded the minutes.
Aldermen present on roll call were: Harvey Zuidema, Mick Welding, Josh West, Vern Tervelt, Dave Helms, Dale Eizenga, Ken Mahaffey. Alderman Arlyn Deets was absent.
Other City Officials present included: City Administrator Barry Dykhuizen and Chief of Police Brian Melton.
The owner of Fast Stop spoke regarding wanting to obtain a “pour liquor license” so that video gaming can be offered at their Morrison location. Mayor Pannier requested Aldermen contact him or CA Dykhuizen if they’d like the topic placed on an agenda.
Chief Melton updated Council on the following:
1) Sergeant Soenksen has returned to full duty.
2) One of the new squad cars is being equipped.
3) School starts 8/20/18.
CA Dykhuizen reported that bids will be opened on 8/21/18 for the Sunset Drive and crack sealing projects. Specifications have been sent to the County on Hilltop Dr, Sycamore St and Scenic St.
Mayor Pannier attended the last Historic Preservation Commission meeting and discussed the Building Improvement Program with the Commission.
Alderman Tervelt moved to approve the Consent Agenda, which consisted of the following: July 23, 2018 Regular Session Minutes; Bills Payable; Requests for Parade Permits and Street Closures – Morrison Chamber of Commerce, seconded by Alderman Welding. On a roll call vote of 7 ayes (Helms, Eizenga, Mahaffey, Zuidema, Welding, West, Tervelt) and 0 nays, the motion carried.
Items for Consideration & Possible Action:
1) At the request of Fehr-Graham, Council took no action on the Application for Payment.
Other Items for Consideration, Discussion & Information:
1) Mayor Pannier will be discussing the Parks & Recreation Director’s vacancy with city staff and the Parks & Recreation Committee to decide the best approach to filling the vacancy.
2) Alderman Zuidema inquired about the old street garage at Waterworks Park. Alderman Zuidema believes it was to be torn down and was stated as such in the Wastewater Treatment Plant construction contract.
Being no further business, Alderman Eizenga moved to adjourn the meeting, seconded by Alderman Mahaffey. On a voice vote, the motion carried.
