Byron Forest Preserve District issued the following announcement on April 30.
Bald Hill is composed of over 150 feet of deposits from the last glacier to cover part of IL 20.000 years ago. The ice carried and rolled rock from the Great Lakes Basin, and when it melted, much of the material was washed into the Rock River and over the land to the west. Since then, rain has washed plenty of rocks into the gulley's on this property, and we've found amazing specimens of quartz, jasper, limonite, geodes, and even float copper. If you're a rock hound, this is the hike for you! Please register by phone 815-234-8635 or online at www.byronforestpreserve.com by May 1st. meet at 5502 N. Silver Creek Rd, Mt Morris 61054.
