ILLINOIS STATE HOUSE DISTRICT 90: Rep. Demmer Encourages Residents to Participate in National Prescription Drug Take Back Day

90

Illinois State House District 90 issued the following announcement on Oct. 21.

Rep. Demmer Encourages Residents to Participate in National Prescription Drug Take Back Day

Saturday, October 26 is National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, and State Representative Tom Demmer (R-Dixon) is encouraging residents of the 90th Legislative District to take advantage of the free service to safely dispose of unused prescription drugs.

“Twice each year the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency (USDEA) partners with police and fire stations, hospitals and other entities across the country to offer people a free and safe way to discard unused mediations,” said Demmer. “There are drop-off locations within the 90th District, so I hope residents will take advantage of the opportunity on October 26 to clear their homes of leftover prescription drugs.”

According to U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency, in 2018, 9.9 million Americans misused controlled prescription drugs, and the majority of abused prescription drugs were obtained from home medicine cabinets. The National Prescription Drug Take Back program takes place twice each year, and on the April 2019 collection day the DEA reported the collection and safe disposal of 937,443 pounds of prescription medication gathered from 6,258 collection sites across the country.

Drop-off locations throughout the region and state can be found by visiting takebackday.dea.gov.”
