Ashton Franklin Center Community Unit School District 275 Board of Education met Sept. 16.

The AFC Board of Education met in regular session on September 16, 2019. The meeting was brought to order by President, Chad Murphy at 7:00pm in the JHHS Library. Members present were: Amy, Mark, Jenny, Jackie, Tim, Chad & Tiffany. Admin present: Mr. Zick, Mrs. Torman, Mrs. Warrenfeltz.
Motion was made by Mark, seconded by Jenny to accept Consent Agenda items A-E as presented. Motion carried by unanimous roll call vote.
Liaison Reports
Ogle County Ed Co-op: Classroom enrollment discussion, Changes to 2021 Grants, Approve 2020 Budget.
IASB: Conference coming up in November
Technology: Chromebooks updated for 7th grade, 3rd & 9th grades in the works. Science lab Wi-Fi set-up is complete, now working on Music rooms.
FFA Alumni: Ag in the Classroom went well, 6 FFA students were on-site assisting.
FFA Report: Chapter Treasurer, Aaron Case, and Reporter, Justin Friday, presented review of past and upcoming events, workshops, and conferences.
PTC: Jr. High dance went well, Plans for Family Fun Night at ES in progress, $50 was given to all AFC teachers for classroom use, Drawdown is scheduled for Feb. 29th.
Athletic Boosters: New windows have been purchased to replace all old windows on the Crow’s Nest at football field.
Recognition of Registered Visitors – Alan Molby, IASB representative, presented update on the Superintendant Search.
Superintendent’s Report
Financial, WACC and OCEC: As submitted.
Audit Repot: Mr. Zick reviewed, cited our usual dings for lack of segregation of duties and Superintendent unable to do certain state reports because he is not a CPA. Small concerns, with the rest of report favorable. District scored 3.80 on a 4.0 scale.
Financial Report: Financial numbers are looking better than anticipated for the fiscal year.
Tri-Conference Update: Pre-workshop registration is open.
Administrative Salaries and Vendors Over $25,000: Will be posted to the school website as required by Oct. 1st.
IASB Northwest Division Mtg/Dinner: Will be held Oct. 30th at Winnebago HS.
Insurance Update: Mr. Zick explained this year’s renewal and the added out-of-pocket costs passed onto employees, the Teacher’s Association has chosen to stay with BCBS. Considering moving the renewal date to July 1st to coincide with contract negotiations.
Facilities Update: Punch list for Science rooms and occupied areas of addition are being addressed by contractor, Sidewalk from Western Ave. will have cracked areas replaced this fall, AFC sign for Jr/Sr HS to be installed, Possibility of event sign being replaced with a digitized sign, Floors currently being installed in new gym, with bleacher installation to follow shortly thereafter.

Motion made by Amy, seconded by Mark to recommend approval of Resolution to Adopt FY 2020 Budget. Motion carried by unanimous roll call vote.
Motion was made by Mark, seconded by Tim to approve District Employee Insurance Coverage as presented. Motion carried by unanimous roll call vote.
Motion made by Tim, seconded by Mark to approve Ross Construction as the Snow Removal Service Provider for FY20 as presented. Motion carried by unanimous roll call vote.
Motion was made by Mark, seconded by Tim to approve the District Audit as presented. Motion carried by unanimous roll call vote.
Motion made by Amy, seconded by Jenny to table the vote to Approve Facilities Renovation Project as presented. Motion carried by unanimous roll call vote.
Motion made by Mark, seconded by Tim to table the vote to Approve Additional Board Training as presented. Motion carried by unanimous roll call vote.
