Ashton Franklin Center Community Unit School District 275 met Oct. 21.

Here is the minutes provided by the Board:

The AFC Board of Education met in regular session on October 21, 2019. The meeting was brought to order by Vice President, Mark Delhotal at 7:00pm in the JHHS Library. Members present were: Amy, Jenny, Jackie, Mark, Tim and Tiffany. Absent: Chad. Admin present: Mr. Zick.

Motion was made by Tim, seconded by Jenny to accept Consent Agenda items A-H as presented. Motion carried by unanimous roll call vote.

Recognition of Registered Visitors

Elizabeth Miller addressed the board with several questions and concerns regarding:

Meeting agendas and minutes not updated on District website, When is executive session warranted in a board meeting, Follow-up issues with Mr. Zick not noted in the following month's meeting minutes, Construction completion date on new gym, Ownership of Middle School/Football field, District policy regarding the dismissal of an employee and how parents are informed, What grade level are chrome books distributed to students and are safeguards put in place to keep students from accessing unsafe content online.

Liaison Reports

FFA Alumni: Received a grant from Corteva & Pioneer to send one of our HS students to Washington Conference.

FFA Report:

FFA Member Bret Buhrow, presented review of past and upcoming activities, workshops, contests and conferences. FFA will be providing teachers a dinner during Parent Teacher Conferences and hosting Lunch with Farmers on 10/26.

PTC: Family Fun Night was well attended & all had fun. Athletic Boosters: New windows have been purchased for the Crow's Nest and will be installed this Fall.

Acknowledgments: KSB Hospital Donation to the District.

Superintendent's Report

Financial, WACC and OCEC: as submitted.

Building and Grounds report: An Open House for the new addition is being planned for Friday, November 15th prior to Meet the Raiders. Mrs. Viall and her students are assisting with the new landscape plants. The punch list on the addition and renovated rooms is coming along well. Tri-Conference: Dinner reservations have been secured for board members. Window Project: A proposed bid schedule has been submitted by architect for windows at both buildings.

Well-rounded Individual Policy: Board/Superintendent discussion of what a "well-rounded” student means and how is the district responsible for setting the standards of a well-rounded student and ensuring the standards are being met.

Old Business - none

New Business

Board will meet with IASB Representatives in a Special Meeting to be held on Monday, November 4, 2019 at 6:00pm in the Jr/Sr HS Library to discuss superintendent applicants and interview procedures.

Motion made by Tim, seconded by Jenny to approve the selection of Chad Murphy as the Delegate and Amy Buhrow as the Alternate Delegate for the IASB Convention next month. Motion carried by unanimous roll call vote.

Motion made by Amy, seconded by Tim to Approve the Second Reading of the Board Policy Revisions as presented. Motion carried by unanimous roll call vote.

Motion made by Tiffany, seconded by Amy to Approve the Electrical Service Provider, Aggressive Energy, for a three-year term as presented. Motion carried by 5-0 roll call vote, with Tim abstaining.

Motion was made by Amy, seconded by Tim to go into Executive Session at 7:31pm. Motion carried by unanimous roll call vote.

Board returned to Regular Session at 8:10pm.

Motion was made by Amy, seconded by Tim to accept the resignation of Travis Stauffer. Motion carried by unanimous roll call vote.

Motion was made by Jenny, seconded by Tim to adjourn the meeting at 8:13pm. Motion carried by unanimous voice vote.
