Byron Forest Preserve District issued the following announcement on March 11.
Discover a way to give back to the earth, find new friends and get some exercise! Join Nachusa Grasslands Nature Conservancy and the Byron Forest Preserve District for a FREE Volunteer Stewardship of Prairies and Oak Savannas Workshop event on Saturday, March 28 from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm. This program allows you to explore hands-on land restoration and stewardship: seed harvesting, weed management, and brush control. You’ll also be given a brief history of the preserve, a substantial snack and go on a short walk to explore the prairies, oak savannas, or wetlands. Children 12 years of age and older are invited to attend. Kids under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Advance registration is required as space is limited by calling the Byron Forest Preserve District at 815 234-8535 ext. 200 by Friday, March 27.
