City of Galena issued the following announcement on March 20.
City of Galena officials are closely monitoring the COVID‐19 pandemic and are implementing
recommendations released by the Center for Disease Control (CDC) and the Illinois Department
of Health (IDPH). We are committed to protecting the safety and security of our residents and
employees.
Effective Wednesday, March 18, we are taking precautions so the City can carry on daily
business for all residents throughout the pandemic. Out of an abundance of caution for the
health of our community, the City of Galena has moved to limit exposure to employees and
residents by closing City buildings to the public, including City Hall, the Police Department, the
Public Works Building, the Wastewater Treatment Plant, and Turner Hall. The exterior doors of
each building will be locked.
At this time, City staff will continue to work at City Hall and the Police Department, so residents
and customers are still able to conduct City business over the phone or through electronic
means. The Public Works Department will also continue regular operations.
Please be assured that our Police Department will remain staffed and ready to protect the
community. Residents and guests should not hesitate to call 911 if there is an emergency.
Residents may continue to pay utility bills by using the drop box behind City Hall, online on
www.cityofgalena.org, by auto payment through your financial institution, or by credit card
over the phone.
You may contact City Hall at 815‐777‐1050 between 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday‐
Friday.
You may contact the Police Department for non‐emergencies at 815‐777‐2131 between
8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday‐Friday.
These precautionary measures are not due to any known exposure to COVID‐19 at our facilities;
they are being implemented to eliminate unnecessary risk to the public and staff.
The City will continue to provide updates and links to websites that provide the latest
information on how to protect yourself and family from this pandemic at
