BYRON FOREST PRESERVE DISTRICT: Note From Summer Camp Director

Summercampfestival

Byron Forest Preserve District issued the following announcement on April 18.

Hi, everyone! I hope you are well and keeping busy. I wanted to send out a message so that you know where we are in the process of planning for this summer. Our staff has had a lot of conversations about the different scenarios for programming for Adventure Club and Day Camp. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is currently working on guidelines specifically for camps so that state and local agencies can make decisions about if/when/how to run, as well as creating guidelines for best practices in health management, community management, and camp operations. We are waiting for them to publish these guidelines.

We are also staying informed via the American Camp Association (ACA), which has gathered a panel of experts to create resources for camps to use in planning for the summer, including health considerations around program, facilities, transportation, equipment, health centers, and critical supplies.

We have plans in place for a late start, smaller numbers, smaller groups, limited field trips, and any other contingency that we can think of. In the end, we will simply need to follow the recommendation and guidelines put out by Governor Pritzker’s office and the Ogle County Health Department.

We hope to know more by the end of the month, including program and registration dates. We will communicate any decisions as soon as we make them. Otherwise, we will post about camp again on April 30 when our stay-home order is currently set to expire. In the meantime, if you have questions or just want to say hello, I’ve created an email account: byronsummercamp@gmail.com.
