ILLINOIS STATE SENATE DISTRICT 36: Anderson Calls for Public Hearings on COVID Plan

Coronavirus update920

Illinois State Senate District 36 issued the following announcement on May 14.

As legislators prepare to return to Springfield, State Senator Neil Anderson (Andalusia) is calling for hearings on Governor J.B. Pritzker's plan to re-open Illinois.

"As we return to Springfield next week, the health and safety of the people of our state must remain our priority. It is critical that legislators, in open and transparent hearings, be allowed to ask questions about how the governor's reopening plan was developed, and provide feedback," said Anderson.

According to Anderson, public hearings would allow representatives from the governor's office to appear before the legislature to answer questions about what data and other factors were considered in crafting the governor's reopening plan. It would also give legislators an opportunity to provide feedback and weigh in on the plan's more restrictive provisions.

"The way we reopen our state will have far-reaching implications on public health and our state's economy," said Anderson. "I am calling on the Senate President and Speaker of the House to schedule legislative hearings on the governor's plan."
