ILLINOIS STATE HOUSE DISTRICT 50: Rep. Andrew Chesney launches 2nd Annual Summer Reading Club Program.

Illinois State House District 50 issued the following announcement on May 29.

State Representative Andrew Chesney announced the official launch of his Second Annual Summer Reading Club Program for 1st-5th (or going into 6th) grade students who live within the 89th Legislative District.  The program is offered to encourage students to read over the summer and promote the lifelong benefits of literacy.

“Students who read over the summer enter the school year in the fall ahead of students who do not read over the summer.  This is a fun way for students to be rewarded for simply reading eight books over their summer break and returning a form signed by a parent or guardian.  It’s important for all of us to encourage students to get ahead by becoming better readers, especially this year when students are set back by remote learning challenges due to COVID,” said Chesney.

Pamphlets are being electronically distributed now to schools and libraries, and paper forms are also available via direct mail upon request or online at repchesney.com. Participation in this program can overlap with any other summer reading program offered through area libraries, schools, or other organizations. Participating students have until August 2nd to read their eight books and will receive special recognition and a special treat to reward them for their summer reading.
