State Rep. Andrew Chesney criticized Gov. J.B. Pritzker for signing House Bill 3653, the police reform bill, into law, saying that the governor has just “endangered all Illinois residents.”

Supporters say House Bill 3653 is needed to hold police officers accountable for incidents of brutality.

The law also mandates body cameras for police officers, ends cash bail, and creates statewide use-of-force standards.

But for Rep. Andrew Chesney this law is just a target on police officers’ backs and he plans on fighting back.

Chesney says he filed House Bill 3715 as a tool to fight back against the new law. Chesney’s bill would enhance the penalties for people who commit crimes against active or retired police officers, no matter the motivation.
