Illinois Rep. Andrew Chesney (R-Freeport) believes the Pritzker administration is not following the science.
“In school extracurricular activities, we have another example of the politics trumping the science at the hands of this Democrat Administration,” he said in a statement.
He and other legislators have signed a letter calling on the governor to increase audience capacity at extracurricular events to 25 percent.
“This letter attracted bipartisan support because more legislators understand this administration is not following the science as closely as those legislators would like to begin a safe return to normalcy,” he said.
According to Chesney, it has been weeks since sports were allowed to resume, and the activities have already passed the incubation period with no major outbreaks reported.
“Perfectly healthy people that are physically distanced from one another or who live within the same household should certainly be allowed to watch their loved ones play in-person,” Chesney said.
He is encouraging the community to sign the Let the Fans In petition demanding Pritzker and the Illinois Department of Public Health allow at least 25% capacity at all indoor and outdoor extracurricular activities.
Chesney has earlier campaigned that the public should be allowed to watch their loved ones participate in sporting events.
