City of Dixon Historic Preservation Commission met April 30.
Here is the minutes provided by the commission:
1. CALL TO ORDER
Chairperson McLane called the meeting to order at 9:01 a.m.
2. ROLL CALL
Commissioners present were Deter, Hulstedt, Krueger, McLane, and Wadsworth. Tim Shipman, Building Official, was absent.
3. APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Wadsworth moved, and Hulstedt seconded, that the minutes of the March 19, 2021, meeting be approved. The motion carried unanimously.
4. NOTICES AND COMMUNICATIONS
There were no notices or communications.
5. PUBLIC COMMENT
No public comments were received.
6. OLD BUSINESS
a) Review revised brochure for the Reagan Way walking tour. Deter presented a revised layout of the brochure that lacked the map (see attached). If any Commissioner has further feedback, he/she can send it to Deter. The map will be incorporated, and a revision should be ready for the next meeting.
b) Review report and application to expand the boundaries of the Dixon Historic District in the Chapter 18 Historic Preservation ordinance. Hulstedt presented a recommendation to add five properties bordering the Public Square (around the old courthouse) to the Historic District. Hulstedt moved, and Deter seconded, that the Commission approve the recommendation (see attached). Motion carried unanimously. The recommendation will now go to the City Council. If approved, the proposal will be referred to the Planning Commission.
7. NEW BUSINESS
a) Certified Local Government. At the next meeting, the Commission will discuss a recommendation to the Mayor that the City become a Certified Local Government (CLG), as was discussed at the Feb. 7, 2020, meeting. At that 2020 meeting, landscape architect Dean Sheaffer explained the CLG program, which can provide (70/30) matching funds for local historic preservation projects. Prior to the May 21, 2021, meeting, all Commissioners are asked to send Deter a resume “showing their demonstrated interest, knowledge, or expertise in historic preservation.” Such resume information is requested by the CLG application.
8. ADJOURNMENT
The next meeting is tentatively scheduled for 9:00 a.m. on Friday, May 21, 2021, and will be held at the Dixon City Council Chambers.
At 9:31 a.m., Wadsworth moved, and McLane seconded, that the meeting be adjourned. The motion carried unanimously.
