Illinois Rep. Tony McCombie is sharing her love of reading with her sixth annual Summer Reading Club event.

The "Reading BUZZ" program is intended for elementary school aged children inside of the 71st District and challenges children to read at least eight books before Aug. 12, according to an April 25 press release.

Participants who finish the challenge will be rewarded with a special treat and will earn a certificate from the Illinois House of Representatives; the release stated.

"I have always been an avid reader and as you can imagine, goal driven," McCombie said in the release. "I want kids to join our reading challenge and hopefully make memories they share later in their lives. Reading was a passion of my ‘Grandma Reagans,’ and we shared a lot of time together reading. This program could be a time for families to unplug, enjoy the quiet and each other’s company."

The goal of the program is to foster positive reading habits in children that they will carry with them into adulthood, according to the release.

For children to participate, a parent or guardian must fill out and sign the form and return it to McCombie’s office as of by Aug. 12. Students or their parents can also fill out the form online on McCombie’s website. The application can be downloaded here.
