In a recent social media post, Illinois Rep. Tom Demmer shared his birthday tribute he received from a colleague.

He took to Facebook Aug. 3 to share a picture he received of his childhood home on Second Avenue in Dixon.

"Thanks to all for the birthday wishes," he said in his Facebook post. "Lots of nostalgia of us six Demmers living here."

He noted they had fun at the Ogle County GOP Lowden dinner when Chairwoman Stacy Flanagan used pictures from Demmer's youth to lighten the mood and share her belated birthday wishes, according to a Facebook post Aug. 5.

Demmer ran for state treasurer as the Republican candidate in the primary election in late June, according to DeKalb Times. He is set to face current state treasurer, Democrat Mike Frerichs, in the November election.

Illinois Valley Times reported Demmer has been fairly vocal in his opposition to the current fiscal year's budget. He spoke out against the budget at a May 12 news conference at the capitol.

“The budget the Democrats passed this year sets Illinoisans up for a series of tax increases in future years, as a result of their inevitably increasing spending at a time when revenues are declining,” Demmer said, according to Illinois Valley Times. “We talked a lot about the last couple of years how unusual some of these state budgets have been, given the heavy reliance on federal COVID relief dollars. If we just look at normal state spending, normal state operations for education and public safety and health care, normal state spending is growing by over 10% in this year's budget.”
