In a recent Facebook post, Rep. Tom Demmer (R-Dixon) shared his visit to Little Village and their Mexican Independence Day Parade.
"A little rain can’t stop us!" Demmer said in the post commemorating the event. "I was glad to join a huge crowd for the Mexican independence day parade in Little Village."
Little Village, a neighborhood in Chicago, is sometimes referred to as the "Mexico of the Midwest."
The visit and social media activity came as Demmer continues his campaign for state treasurer. He announced his candidacy to the public in January and celebrated his nomination as the Republican candidate for the position with a win in the June primary election.
"Today, Illinois voters spoke and elected me to be the Republican nominee for State Treasurer and I’m proud to earn their support," Demmer said in an Illinois Valley Times report. "Illinois needs a fresh start! During Mike Frerichs’ 15 years in Springfield, he’s fallen for just about everything--higher taxes, more spending, he’s even supported a tax on retirement income while turning a blind eye to the corruption in his own party. I’m running for State Treasurer because Illinois families need a fiscal watchdog on their side to clean up Springfield and stop the tax hikes."
