In a recent Facebook post, Illinois state Rep. Tony McCombie (R-Savanna) blamed government spending for insurance rate increases.

The post showed a screen capture of a Chicago Tribune story. In the piece, the paper reported: State Farm is up more than 8%. Allstate hiked auto insurance rates by 14% in Illinois last month, significantly outpacing the national average and inflation rate. Both companies say inflation is to blame.

"Here we go!" McCombie said in the post. "This is no surprise to me! Higher government spending and bad government policy caused this problem! Please do your research and vote accordingly this November! #nothingsfree #stopspending #yourvoiceyourvote"

In other activities, McCombie praised the recipients of the Service Above Self Award.

“Congratulations to David & Kay Engaldo for earning the Service Above Self Award!" McCombie said in a Facebook post, quoted by Rock Island Today. "You have done so much for our community and hearing it all listed on paper gave me goosebumps! Thank you! #serviceaboveself #rotarians #volunteer"

Additionally, McCombie honored students who won awards for reading.

“Today we delivered some McComBEE Buzz Reading Certificates to schools in Fulton and Morrison!" she posted on Facebook, quoted by Today. “I would like to give a huge SHOUT OUT to 1st Gateway Credit Union for being one of our sponsors! Each kiddo gets a certificate, a pencil, and a Dairy Queen gift certificate!"

This was McCombie's sixth summer reading program. She officially announced it in late April. Participants were required to read eight or more books to qualify for the summer prize.
