Illinois state Rep. Tony McCombie (R-Savanna) recently took to social media to criticize Sen. Emil Jones III (D-Chicago) for his alleged actions related to red-light cameras.

In a Sept. 20 Facebook post, McCombie shared a screenshot from a Chicago Sun-Times article about Jones being accused of requesting a bribe to oppose legislation that would have required a statewide evaluation of red-light camera systems. The article reported that the charges against Jones are federal, and they come three years after he allegedly lied to the FBI about protecting the politically connected red-light camera company SafeSpeed LLC in the Illinois General Assembly.

“Here we go again!” McCombie said in the Facebook post. “Nothing worse than using your position for personal gain and destroying the trust of the people you serve! #whosenext #ethicsreform #reimagineillinois”

On Sept. 22, Gov. JB Pritzker called on Jones and state Sen. Michael Hastings (D-Frankfort), who is accused of abusing women, to resign; the Sun-Times said.

“They should answer the charges and have their day in court,” Pritzker told the Sun-Times. “But in the best interests of their constituents, these men must resign from their offices. Resigning only their leadership roles falls short of what the public should expect. I want to send a clear message to the people of Illinois: Corruption and abuse have no place here.”

McCombie was elected to represent the 71st District in 2016, the Illinois General Assembly website said. She is a lifelong resident of Savanna, Ill., and earned a bachelor of arts degree from Western Illinois University. McCombie owns and operates Blue Appraisals and is also a real estate broker with MelFoster Company. Her previous political experience includes serving as mayor of Savanna and as a member of the Savanna City Council.
