Illinois State Rep. Andrew Chesney (R-Freeport) was happy to be able to recently gift the Scales Mound School Trap Team $1,000 from the Illinois Legislative Sportsmen's Caucus.
In a September 27 Facebook post, Chesney shared a picture of himself presenting the check to the high school trap team.
"It was a pleasure to present a grant from the Illinois Sportsmen's Caucus to the Scales Mound School Trap Team," Chesney wrote in the post. "Students on the team learn all the aspects of competitive trap shooting including shotgun safety, mental concentration, eye hand coordination, teamwork, responsibility, and sportsmanship."
The team received the grant on September 26. According to a news release on Chesney's website, the team was appreciative of the award. Linda Zarko, the team's founder and assistant coach, said the money would be used to buy equipment "that will enhance the Trap Team program for the students."
In the release, Chesney called it an honor to nominate the team and said he was "delighted this deserving organization was selected to receive this grant."
According to Chesney's website, he's represented the 89th District since December 2018. He previously was elected to serve on the Freeport City Council and was a past board member for the Regional Access Mobilization Project (RAMP). He also used to be a mentor with the Big Brothers Big Sisters program.
