City of Rock Falls Public Works/Public Property Committee met Nov. 3.

Here are the minutes provided by the committee:

1. Topic Call to Order

Alderman Wangelin called the meeting to order with a quorum present at 8:15 a.m.

2. Minutes

Review of the October 6, 2022, Public Works/Public Property minutes as presented. Motion was made by Alderman Wangelin; second by Alderman McKanna. 3 ayes, motion approved.

3. Engineer Report

Corey Buck, Willett, Hofmann & Associates informed the Committee that they will be completing the 3rd Avenue Project in the next week or two.

They are putting the binder down on the Dixon Avenue Project.

Moving forward on the Avenue A Project.

4. New Business

Committee reviewed the street and alley list for oil and chip. After discussion it was decided that $50,000.00 for Crack Filling, $50,000.00 for sidewalks and $300,000.00 for streets will be budgeted for FY 2024.

5. Old Business

5-Year Capital Plan - City Administrator Blackert will have a preliminary 5-year plan to the Committee at the December 2022 meeting.

6. Street Department

Larry Spinka stated that the loader is repaired, they are sweeping and filling No action potholes and finishing maintenance on the snowplows and spreaders.

7. City Administrator

Administrator Blackert informed the committee that we had received the cost of salt for this year. Last year it cost $46.49 per ton and this year it will be $92.02 per ton.

8. Committee Member Items

Brian Frickenstein informed the committee that the City had been contacted by IDNR regarding the bridge over the canal on E 2nd Street. They wanted to shut down the bridge due to a problem with a beam, after talking with IDOT we were able to place barrel barricades over the bad section and keep the bridge open. IDOT will be sending us a letter about posting weight limits for the bridge. IDNR will need to address to issues with the bridge as there have been problems for many years.

9. Adjournment

A motion was made by Alderman Wangelin and second by Alderman McKanna to adjourn. Vote unanimous.
