State Rep. Tom Demmer (R-Dixon) is celebrating the end of his term while welcoming in two of his GOP colleagues to the next session of the Illinois General Assembly.
Demmer shared a picture with state Reps. Tony McCombie (R-Savanna) and Brad Fritts (R-Dixon) in a Jan. 11 Facebook post.
"Congratulations and welcome to Rep. Tony McCombie and Rep. Brad Fritts who were sworn in today for the new term," Demmer said in the post. "Today marks the end of my term and it also brings new legislative district maps. For those who have been in my legislative district for the past 10 years, the maps have changed and you may be represented by either Rep. Tony McCombie (mccombie@ilhousegop.org) or Rep. Brad Fritts (fritts@ilhousegop.org). I wish them the very best in the term ahead. And I know you all will be well served by these two dedicated public servants."
Demmer had served the 90th District as a state representative. During the previous session, he was the deputy House Republican leader and served on the Joint Committee on Administrative Rules (JCAR) as well as several health care and education committees.
Demmer ran for state treasurer in the 2022 general election against incumbent Michael Frerichs, a Democrat; a report from The New York Times said. Demmer received 44% of the vote while Frerichs received 53.8%.
The congressman conceded the race to Frerichs the night of the election.
"While our campaign has come up short, our movement has just begun," Demmer said in a tweet. "I congratulate @MikeForIllinois on a hard fought campaign and I wish him the best in his next term."
