As a result of the latest redistricting, state Sen. Neil Anderson has a new district to call home. While the number of his district has changed, he said he plans to continue the same platform he’s been following since he first started serving in 2015.
“Blessed to have served in the 36th District, and I look forward to what we can accomplish in the new 47th District,” Anderson (R-Moline) posted on Facebook after being sworn in last week.
Anderson’s post shared a link to an official statement on his swearing in ceremony.
“I am proud of the work I’ve been able to get done in the 36th District, but there is still more work to be done and Illinoisans deserve more and better,” Anderson said in his statement. “As legislators, we must do our due diligence to represent our districts at our full potential and weed out bad policy and fight for the good.”
One of his projects is to preserve gun rights, an objective that is being tested already this year as Gov. J.B. Pritzker recently signed an assault-weapons ban.
“Since I have been in the General Assembly, I have continuously worked to protect our Second Amendment Rights,” Anderson said. “I’ve made it clear I believe the FOID Card is unconstitutional which is why I have filed legislation every year to repeal the FOID Act. Law-abiding gun owners have been under attack in this state for far too long and I will continue to fight for our constitutional rights.”
Under the redistricting, Anderson has opened a new district office in the Button Building in Aledo. He will also have satellite offices in Macomb and Kewanee. The satellite locations will be shared with state Reps. Norine Hammond and Travis Weaver, respectively.
Anderson's biography says he has served in the Illinois State Senate since 2015, when he was elected to the 36th District. When he's not working in the Senate, Anderson is a professional firefighter and paramedic with the Moline Fire Department.
In the November 2022 election, Anderson ran unopposed for the 47th District Senate seat.
