State Representative Bradley Fritts recently provided a recap of the Fall legislative veto session in Illinois. In his update, Rep. Fritts expressed both satisfaction and disappointment with the outcomes of the session.
On a positive note, two bipartisan bills were passed that will have a positive impact on the people of Illinois. The first bill ended the moratorium on nuclear energy, ensuring a safe and reliable energy source for years to come. The second bill addressed critical issues related to farm mutual insurance policyholders, ensuring that over 50,000 Illinoisans would not go uninsured.
However, Rep. Fritts expressed deep disappointment that the Invest in Kids Scholarship Program was not called for a vote. This program provides scholarships to low-income children, allowing them to attend private schools. Without action from the General Assembly, the program will end, leaving nearly 10,000 children without scholarships. Rep. Fritts spoke with many of these students during the session and heard their pleas to save their scholarships.
In addition to the legislative updates, Rep. Fritts also announced a community event called the Rx Drop Off Drive. In partnership with various organizations, including the Sauk Valley Chamber of Commerce and the Illinois State Police, the event aims to safely dispose of unwanted or expired prescription medications. The event will take place on Saturday, December 9th, at the Sauk Valley Chamber of Commerce Parking Lot in Sterling.
Another highlight in Rep. Fritts' update was the recognition of a local business, Kozmic Salon in Ashton. Rep. Fritts commended the salon for its active involvement in the Ashton community, including participation in local festivals and offering discounts to students. The salon, founded by Kelsey Kutz, specializes in hair color and aims to help customers find their unique style.
Rep. Fritts also shared his recent community outreach activities, which included participating in Halloween events and honoring law enforcement officers and veterans. He attended the Trick or Treat Safe House in Rochelle and Biz Boo in Rock Falls, where he enjoyed seeing the creative costumes. Rep. Fritts also presented a certificate of sympathy to Officer McWethy of the Dixon Police Department for the loss of his K-9 dog, Officer Hery. Additionally, he visited Bonnell Industries in Dixon to view their new manufacturing facility and attended the Northwest Illinois Law Enforcement Legislative Luncheon in Freeport to show his support for law enforcement.
In his update, Rep. Fritts encouraged constituents to participate in his 2023 Legislative Survey. The survey allows constituents to provide feedback on important issues and helps Rep. Fritts understand the needs and challenges of District 74. He emphasized that the legislation he works on should directly reflect the concerns of his constituents.
To stay informed about Rep. Fritt's work and to contact his office, constituents can visit his website or follow him on Facebook. Rep. Fritts promised to continue updating his constituents through his e-newsletter, keeping them informed about his efforts to pass bills in Springfield and serve the district.
Overall, Rep. Fritts' legislative update provides a comprehensive summary of recent developments and activities in District 74.
