Voters are invited to a meet and greet event with senate candidate Chris Bishop on Monday, Dec. 11, from 4:30 PM to 6:00 PM at Kennay Farms Distilling.
Organized by Citizens for Chris Bishop, the event offers an opportunity for the public to engage with the candidate, ask questions, and have casual conversations. The duration of the gathering is set for 1 hour and 30 minutes, welcoming anyone.
As the 2024 election season approaches, such events play a crucial role in fostering direct connections between candidates and the electorate, allowing voters to make informed decisions about the candidates vying for public office.
In late September, Bishop announced his candidacy with a commitment to restoring common sense in Springfield. His campaign emphasizes his roots as a Dixon native.
"I’m looking forward to bringing common sense back to Springfield," he stated at the time of his announcement.
With over a decade of experience as a teacher and high school wrestling coach in Dixon Public Schools, Bishop holds a master’s degree in kinesiology and currently works in the private sector as a grain marketing and crop insurance representative. Currently serving his second term on the Dixon City Council, his political journey began in 2015, following the City of Dixon’s encounter with the largest municipal fraud case in U.S. history. According to his website, Bishop played a role in the city council overseeing the transition to the current city manager form of government and hiring Dixon’s first city manager.
“Chris is an official that believes in upholding the Constitution, supporting first responders, building fiscal responsibility, maintaining/upgrading infrastructure, nurturing economic development, and ensuring a quality education for students,” Bishop’s website reads. “He aims to take his common sense approach to Springfield and represent the needs of the 37th District at the state level.”
The 37th State Senate District encompasses Lee, Bureau, Henry, DeKalb, Ogle, Rock Island, Whiteside, Stark, Peoria, Woodford and Marshall counties. It is currently represented by State Sen. Win Stoller (R-Germantown Hills) who announced in August he would not be seeking a third term.
