House Minority Leader Tony McCombie has spoken out against the Prisoner Review Board (PRB) following a tragic incident involving the release of a dangerous criminal. In response to the PRB's oversight that led to the death of an innocent victim, McCombie stated, “Lives were lost because of the lack of responsibility and due diligence at the PRB, and the destructive policies handed down by progressive Democrats that have tilted the scales in favor of dangerous criminals. When innocent people die because of bad policy, we must correct course immediately."

McCombie criticized the lack of action from Democrats on proposed legislation aimed at protecting victims and notifying communities of violent offenders' release. She urged the Speaker to prioritize public safety legislation in light of the recent events.

Furthermore, McCombie has actively supported bills such as HB5126 and HB 4852 to address the flawed processes at the PRB. She emphasized the need for additional oversight and notification to the community regarding the release of prisoners with a history of domestic violence.

The Illinois Prisoner Review Board, responsible for parole release decisions and victim notifications, operates as an independent body appointed by the Governor of Illinois. Following the incident, PRB Chair Donald Shelton has resigned from his position after serving on the board since 2012.

The call for a process overhaul at the PRB comes in the wake of a devastating tragedy that has underscored the importance of ensuring responsible decision-making and prioritizing public safety in the criminal justice system.
