Illinois House Minority Leader Tony McCombie is organizing a Free Shred Event in Freeport on Saturday, October 5th. The event will be held alongside State Representative John M. Cabello (R-Machesney Park) and the Stephenson County Sheriff’s Department.

Residents can bring any paper documents to the event for professional and secure shredding and disposal. The details of the event are as follows:

- Date: October 5th, 2024

- Time: 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM

- Location: Highland Community College, Parking Lot B, 2998 West Pearl City Rd., Freeport, IL

This event has been successful in the past due to high demand for secure document shredding in the area. "I am pleased to offer this event to residents so that they can rest assured their personal information is not compromised," said Leader McCombie. "I encourage everyone able to stop by the event and take the extra step to protect you and your family from possible identity theft."

The lawmakers recommend using this opportunity to dispose of any paper documents containing sensitive personal information safely. The event is free and open to all residents of the 89th and 90th House Districts. Attendees are encouraged to limit their items for shredding to two bankers boxes as the event will end once the truck reaches capacity.

"With consumer fraud and digital hacking on the rise, now is the time to take steps to keep your personal data safe," said Representative Cabello. "Please utilize this free shred event and make it even harder for bad actors and scammers to steal your information."

For more information about this shred event, contact Representative Cabello’s office at 815-974-0090 or Leader McCombie’s office at 815-291-8989.
