One year has passed since the deadly attack on Israel by Hamas militants on October 7, 2023. The assault resulted in the deaths of entire families and more than 250 hostages being taken. This incident is considered one of the deadliest terrorist attacks in Israel's history.

Following eyewitness reports and video evidence, Illinois House Minority Leader Tony McCombie expressed her support for Israel with a statement: “The Israeli people and Jewish Americans deserve our unequivocal support against threats to their very existence and the grotesque antisemitism displayed by groups here at home and in the Middle East.”

In retaliation, Israel quickly launched an offensive against Hamas, declaring war on the organization. The country vowed to continue its efforts until Hamas is destroyed, removed from power in Gaza, and all hostages are released.

Since the conflict began, over 43,000 people have been killed in Gaza. The escalation of violence highlights how much more dangerous the region has become since the attack by Hamas last year.
