The Illinois Department on Aging is urging Medicare recipients to evaluate their current plans during the Open Enrollment Period, which runs from October 15 to December 7. The department highlights the importance of ensuring that plans still align with individuals' needs and budgets.

Residents of Illinois can access free assistance in comparing health and drug plan options through the state's Senior Health Insurance Program (SHIP). SHIP counselors are available both in person and online throughout the year, offering particular support during Open Enrollment when beneficiaries have the opportunity to join or switch plans. New coverage for those who make changes will begin on January 1, 2025.

House Minority Leader Tony McCombie is organizing two Medicare 101 workshops this week. These sessions will feature experts from SHIP who will provide insights into various aspects of Medicare. Seniors attending these events can expect to have their questions addressed and gain a deeper understanding of the system, enabling them to make informed choices regarding their healthcare coverage.

The workshops are free and open to all seniors seeking to improve their knowledge of Medicare. Attendees are encouraged to participate actively by bringing their questions. For more information about these events, contact Leader McCombie’s district office at mccombie@ilhousegop.org or call 815-291-8989.
