Jurors in the federal corruption trial of Mike Madigan were presented with evidence of his influence across state government. The trial, which started in October, is ongoing and features testimony from lawmakers, lobbyists, and former colleagues. Madigan faces charges of racketeering and bribery.

Federal prosecutors have outlined what they call "the Madigan Enterprise," alleging that the former speaker committed crimes for personal gain and to benefit political allies.

House Republican lawmakers, including House Minority Leader Tony McCombie, continue to push for stronger ethics laws. McCombie stated, "We sound like a broken record with our continuous calls for ethics reform, but we will not stop until it is passed: we cannot continue to rely on federal prosecution to hold elected officials to a higher standard."
