The legislative Lame Duck session is set to commence in Springfield, bringing lawmakers back to the State Capitol for a four-day period before the new term of the 104th General Assembly begins. This session has been met with opposition from House Minority Leader Tony McCombie and House Republicans. They criticize it for historically producing poor public policy, lacking transparency for Illinois taxpayers, and being rushed.

McCombie expressed this viewpoint in a statement: “We do not need more time for out-of-touch Democrats to dream up harmful legislation. We need bipartisan legislation that focuses on the issues Illinois families care about most. Until the Democrat majority can get their priorities in order, the House Republicans oppose a Lame Duck session.”

Despite this opposition, the Democratic majority has scheduled the Lame Duck session to start today, Saturday, January 4th. The proceedings will be available for streaming online at ilga.gov.
