Illinois legislators have had a busy schedule in Springfield recently, attending four days of Lame Duck session, being sworn into office, and starting the 104th General Assembly.
State Representative Bradley J. Fritts was inaugurated for his second term on January 8th. He expressed his dedication to creating positive change for future generations in Illinois. "Serving the people of the 74th District is the honor of a lifetime," he said.
A significant event during this period was the passage of Senate Bill 867 on January 7th, which involves transferring portions of Shabbona State Park to the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation. The bill passed with a vote of 63-42-1 in the Illinois House of Representatives. Fritts voiced concerns about the legislation, stating: "I am deeply concerned with the passage of Senate Bill 867." He highlighted issues such as lack of protections for current landowners and absence of development regulations.
Fritts emphasized that local residents' voices were not adequately considered in crafting this legislation. "Unfortunately, the majority party in Springfield decided that winning political points should supersede crafting good public policy," he remarked.
Constituents with questions or concerns about this issue are encouraged to contact Fritts' office via email at Fritts@ilhousegop.org or by phone at 815-561-3690. Additionally, an in-person town hall meeting regarding the Shabbona State Park land transfer is scheduled for January 16th at Flewellin Memorial Library in Shabbona.
Other upcoming events include an IPASS and ICASH event on February 4th at Sterling Public Library and a Medicare seminar on February 11th at Rock Falls Chamber of Commerce. The Medicare seminar will be hosted by Representatives Brad Fritts and Ryan Spain.
Fritts also announced a new 'Community Calendar' on his official state website to help constituents find local community events easily.
