President Donald Trump's Department of Justice has initiated legal proceedings against the State of Illinois. The lawsuit, filed on Thursday, alleges that Illinois officials, including Governor JB Pritzker and Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson, are obstructing federal efforts to deport illegal immigrants.

State Senator Andrew Chesney expressed his support for the DOJ's actions in a statement. "Today’s Department of Justice lawsuit against the State of Illinois is a direct result of Governor JB Pritzker’s reckless and dangerous policies," Chesney stated. He criticized Pritzker and others for allegedly using taxpayer resources to aid illegal immigrants in avoiding federal authorities. According to Chesney, the Trump Administration is clear in its stance against states hindering their immigration enforcement objectives.

Chesney further urged Illinois Democrats to prioritize public safety over political agendas. "It’s time for Illinois Democrats to stop playing political games with our safety and start putting the citizens of this state first," he said. He called for legislative action on Senate Bill 1203, which he sponsors. The bill seeks to repeal the TRUST Act, aiming to prevent any local government in Illinois from impeding federal immigration enforcement.
