Legislation introduced in the Illinois House aims to impose new regulations on homeschooling, drawing significant opposition from residents. The bill, HB2827, proposes that parents meet educational qualifications, notify school districts when they start homeschooling, and provide evidence of teaching materials if needed. It also seeks to extend registration requirements to private schools.

The Illinois House Education Policy Committee is set to discuss the bill tomorrow. House Minority Leader Tony McCombie has expressed her support for homeschooling families and opposes the proposed legislation.

More than 30,000 witness slips have been filed against the original bill. An amendment has been added, and residents are encouraged to submit additional witness slips regarding this change. Leader McCombie has provided guidance on filing these slips in a previous post.
