Illinois House Minority Leader Tony McCombie is endorsing a local Drug Take Back Day scheduled for April 26th. This event will allow residents to safely dispose of prescription drugs at the Pearl City Fire Department, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., hosted by the Stephenson County Sheriff’s Department. This aligns with the National Prescription Take Back Day, supported by the federal Drug Enforcement Agency, aiming to curb medication misuse and opioid addiction.

Leader McCombie emphasized the importance of the event, stating, “This is a great opportunity for residents to safely dispose of any unused or expired medications in their homes. National Prescription Drug Take Back Day is a useful reminder of how medications and opioids can fall into the wrong hands or be misused. We all need to do our part to keep our community and everyone in it safe.”

The National Prescription Drug Take Back Day is part of broader initiatives addressing the opioid crisis. McCombie has actively supported legislative measures to combat this epidemic, especially targeting fentanyl—a leading cause of overdoses. She pushed for legislation that permits the over-the-counter sale of fentanyl test strips, a vital tool for overdose prevention.

The drug take back event on April 26th will be conducted as a drive-thru, allowing participants to remain in their vehicles while dropping off medications. For further details, residents can reach out to McCombie’s district office at 815-291-8989.
