State Senator Li Arellano, Jr has expressed strong disapproval following the Senate's approval of House Bill 3438. The legislation involves a bailout for the Chicago transit system, which will be partly funded by a new $1.50 delivery tax on almost all online orders.

Senator Arellano criticized the decision, stating: “Failed leadership and blatant transit mismanagement in Chicago has now led to Democratic lawmakers dipping into the pockets of every Illinoisan, whether they use the system or not. This delivery tax was rushed through at midnight, on the last day of session, to fund the failures of Mayor Brandon Johnson and his allies."

He further added: “It’s ridiculous to saddle our taxpayers, who are stretched to their limits, with more taxes, especially when they already face the highest overall tax burden of any state. The tax-and-spend Democrats have once again shown that their failures will continue to harm every Illinoisan.”

The bill's passage marks a significant development in funding efforts for public transportation in Chicago amid ongoing debates about fiscal responsibility and taxpayer burdens.
