Following the approval of the FY26 budget, State Representative Brad Fritts (R-Dixon) expressed his disapproval through a public statement.

Fritts criticized the timing and process of the budget's passage, stating: “Here we go again! Another record-breaking budget was passed in the late-night hours with limited debate to avoid accountability and transparency." He voiced disappointment with what he described as the "budgeting tactics of Illinois Democrats," accusing them of excluding bipartisan input and dissent.

The representative pointed out that the over $55 billion budget was not balanced, attributing this to a $1 billion tax increase on Illinois families and various fiscal maneuvers. He claimed these tactics included "gimmicks" such as reallocating funds from sources like the Road Fund and Rainy Day Fund to present a balanced appearance.

“This has to end," Fritts stated, expressing concern about the impact on Illinois residents and future generations. He emphasized his opposition by declaring, "I was a proud NO vote on this disaster of a budget and will continue my fight for fiscal responsibility."
