State Representative Bradley J. Fritts has expressed strong opposition to the recently passed budget for Fiscal Year 2026, describing it as "irresponsible." According to Rep. Fritts, he and his Republican colleagues voted against the budget due to concerns over its planning and execution by the majority party.
Rep. Fritts criticized the budget for failing to address several critical issues, including a fiscal cliff for Chicago transit, pension debt crisis, and rising energy costs attributed to reliance on wind and solar energy. He stated that these matters were not resolved during the 2025 Spring Legislative Session.
"The over $55 billion budget is not balanced," Rep. Fritts said, accusing Democrats of raising taxes by $1 billion and using financial maneuvers like fund sweeps and one-time gimmicks to create an appearance of balance. He described these tactics as unsustainable and deceptive.
Despite his opposition in Springfield, Rep. Fritts plans to continue engaging with constituents through his 2025 Summer Tour, which includes events such as "Coffee & Conversation" sessions and town halls across various locations in Illinois.
Additionally, Rep. Fritts announced a shred event on June 7th at Self Help Enterprises in Sterling, allowing residents to dispose of documents securely. A prescription drop-off drive is also scheduled for June 10th in partnership with the City of Rochelle and Rochelle Police Department.
Rep. Fritts highlighted recent community outreach efforts, including participation in a Legislative Luncheon hosted by Whiteside County Healthier Communities Partnership and attendance at events organized by the Rochelle Chamber of Commerce.
He encouraged constituents to stay informed about his legislative activities via his website or Facebook page.
