Illinois House Minority Leader Tony McCombie will host a free paper shredding event in Freeport on October 1, 2025, together with State Representative John M. Cabello. The event is open to residents of the 89th and 90th House Districts and aims to provide a secure way for people to dispose of documents containing sensitive personal information.
The shredding service will take place from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Highland Community College, located at 2998 West Pearl City Road in Freeport, specifically in Parking Lot B. Attendees are asked to bring no more than two banker boxes of documents for shredding, as the event will conclude once the truck reaches capacity.
Leader McCombie emphasized the importance of protecting personal information: “I’m proud to offer this event to help protect our residents and give them peace of mind knowing their personal information is safe,” said Leader McCombie. “I strongly encourage everyone who can to attend to take this simple step to safeguard you and your family from any sort of identity theft.”
Representative Cabello highlighted the ongoing risk of consumer fraud: “The risk to individuals’ personal and financial information has never been greater,” said Cabello. “Documents containing sensitive details—such as Social Security numbers, financial records, and medical information—can easily be exploited if not properly disposed of. Participating in this free shredding event is a simple but important step residents can take to protect themselves from identity theft, financial loss, and long-term damage to their credit.”
McCombie has represented Illinois’s 89th House District since her election in 2023 as a Republican, succeeding Andrew Chesney.
