Today, Illinois House Minority Leader Tony McCombie addressed recent incidents of violence against ICE officials in Illinois during a press conference. She urged an end to rhetoric that she says has contributed to these events.
"From escalating confrontations with ICE agents to rising tensions with local law enforcement, the incidents are mounting. Just look at Broadview, Illinois, where violent protests continue to unfold," McCombie said.
She added, "This is not just a trend, it’s a warning. If we remain silent, small sparks will ignite into uncontrollable fires. Now is the time to speak out, act assertively, and restore order before more violence is enabled."
McCombie emphasized her support for public safety and law enforcement. "I stand firmly with law enforcement and public servants who face heightened risk every day," she stated. "I will continue to defend the rule of law and the principle that no one should ever be targeted for carrying out their duty."
She continued: "Public safety must always be a priority. But we cannot have safe neighborhoods without the help and support of law enforcement, across the board, from federal to local levels."
Tony McCombie was elected as a Republican representative for Illinois's 89th House District in 2023, succeeding Andrew Chesney.
