State Representative Bradley J. Fritts provided an update to constituents as Illinois enters the fall season and prepares for the annual legislative veto session in Springfield next week.

Fritts noted that, “Next week, legislators head back to Springfield for week one of our annual veto session. This is a two-week session where legislators typically address bills that were vetoed by the Governor. Due to their supermajority status, Illinois Democrats almost never need to utilize this session for overriding or addressing vetoes.”

He expressed hope that lawmakers would focus on key issues facing Illinois. “Hopefully, we will instead focus on one of the many pressing issues facing our state. Skyrocketing energy costs, unsustainable property tax bills, a crime crisis, and a looming budget cliff for the CTA all need to be addressed urgently. I hope my colleagues across the aisle take this opportunity to work together on solutions that benefit everyone,” Fritts said.

Fritts also invited residents to attend a Utility Bill Clinic hosted in partnership with the Citizens Utility Board (CUB). The event aims to provide information on reducing utility costs and will take place Wednesday, October 15th from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the Sterling Public Library. Appointments are preferred and can be made by contacting his office.

As part of ongoing efforts to highlight local businesses, Fritts recognized Selmi’s Greenhouse, Farm, and Pumpkin Patch in Rock Falls as his September 2025 spotlight. He stated that Selmi’s is a longstanding family-run business involved in supporting schools and local fundraisers: “The Selmi family business dates back four generations and has grown to become a regional staple. Today, Matt Selmi continues to expand its impact by hosting school groups from across the area, including the CEO program and students from Newman Central Catholic High School. The farm also regularly holds benefits and fundraisers to support local causes.” He added: “What really stands out about Selmi’s is their generosity and willingness to give back. Whether it’s supporting schools, hosting students, or lending a hand through fundraisers, they work hard to make our community stronger.”

In other community outreach activities mentioned in his update, Fritts reported successful completion of an annual Hunter Safety Course organized locally with help from Chris Thiel and John Kaltenbach.

His office also attended an open house ceremony marking the launch of the new Lee County Landfill Renewable Natural Gas Facility operated by Ameresco, U.S. Energy, and Republic Services. The facility converts methane emissions into renewable natural gas for local use.

Residents interested in visiting museums can use Fritts’ office museum pass program for free admission for up to four people at participating locations; reservations are required.

Finally, he encouraged use of his Community Calendar as a resource for upcoming events while noting restrictions related to state ethics laws.

Fritts was elected as a Republican representative for Illinois’ 74th House District in 2023 after succeeding Dan Swanson.
